Part of 50: A Celebration of Sun & Moon Classics
The six short plays of this volume all concern social or sexual tension, confusion of identity, the joyful chaos that comes of those everyday dilemmas. In "Past Present Future Tense" (which was later performed as an opera, "Still in Love"), husband and wife fight interminably, attempting to utterly control and destroy one another until order is returned with a ritualistic murder; in the title play, "A Dog Tries to Kiss the Sky," a man is disturbed that no one but he can hear a wailing dog and discusses his dilemma with an incredulous passerby; in "Intentional Coincidence" a man, casually passing through other people’s lives, knows just enough about them to make them frightened and slightly paranoid.
Kier Peters, the dramatic pseudonym of poet-publisher Douglas Messerli, has had these plays and others performed in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
